Where to look for accommodation while traveling? And .

March 2nd, 2013

I made my first review of cafes and restaurants with low prices for “Walks around St. Petersburg” in 2008. Much water has passed under the bridge since then. The canteens at the railway ticket offices on the Griboedov Canal, in the Passage department store, on Millionnaya 6, Malaya Morskaya 3 and Italianskaya 10 died out. But others remained, new ones appeared. Surprisingly, prices have changed over five years, but only slightly. Now an economy class lunch in St. Petersburg will cost about 150-200 rubles. In this review, I will touch on places that offer food in this price range.

All prices shown are valid as of February 2013. The article deliberately does not touch upon the topic of food quality. In any case, such an assessment will be subjective.

A high density of the establishments we need is observed in the Sennaya Square area. This is not surprising, since the area around Sennaya was historically distinguished by the fact that poor St. Petersburg residents lived here. On Sadovaya Street If you walk from the square to Nevsky Prospekt, as well as on the adjacent side streets, you can find several remarkable places.

Dining room " Home kitchen"(Gorokhovaya St. 47):

Vegetarian restaurant "Rada & K" (Gorohovaya St. 36). This seems to be the only place where the lack of meat in the sausage is a plus, not a minus:

In house number 27 on Sadovaya Street there is a cozy “Dining Room on Sadovaya”. She left the most pleasant impression thanks to the clean room and friendly staff.

Nearby (at house No. 32) there is a pyshechnaya. Prices here are slightly higher than in the famous Pyshechna on Konyushennaya Street. The photo shows a set that costs 70 rubles: three crumpets for 15, coffee with milk for 25 rubles. Tea here will cost 22 rubles. There is only one table for seated meals; most visitors have to eat crumpets while standing. There are hooks screwed to the wall under the shelves, so you don't have to place your bags on the floor. The establishment honors Leningrad traditions and provides customers with “napkins” - cut thick, non-absorbent paper.

Closer to Nevsky Prospekt there is a complex of a cafe, a pastry shop and a restaurant "Metropol". Each of the elements of this “triptych” has a separate entrance from Sadovaya Street.

On the other side of Nevsky Prospekt (house no. 50) there is a Cheburek restaurant called Brynza. Locally prepared cheburek costs 110 rubles, served with tomato sauce. A little further, in house No. 5 there is a shawarma (from 100 to 180 rubles per shawarma, tea - from 40 rubles, coffee from 50, beer from 75).

On Nevsky Prospekt opposite Gostiny Dvor there is one of the branches of the Chainaya Lozhka chain. If you buy pancakes, salads, tea according to your taste here, then lunch will cost 250-300 rubles. Pancakes with meat are sold here for 37 (special prices for one of the options), 70 and 75 rubles. Sweet pancakes - for 53, 67 rubles, tea - 45/80 rubles (teapot for one/two clients). But pay attention, the minimum set lunch costs only 101 rubles! And lo and behold, I found meat in the soup! :) You can also eat them on occasion, but if hunger overcomes you too much, then take a portion for 163 rubles. In addition to soup, a hearty pancake and tea, this set will also include a salad. For children, lunch is offered for 159 rubles: two pancakes, tea and a gift (kinder surprise). "Teaspoon" distinguished itself by closing its restrooms to random passersby from the street. Access to them is carried out using the code that you receive on your receipt. However, now the local restrooms have become noticeably cleaner than before...

Not long ago, a chain of canteens, “Stolovaya No. 1,” opened in St. Petersburg. Its branches are located on Vosstaniya Square and on the Griboedov Canal near Nevsky Prospekt. The cheapest business lunch is served here for 99 rubles!!!

On the way to the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, the restaurant “Frikadelki” has been operating for a long time (8, Griboyedov Canal Embankment). The establishment operates on the principle of self-service. The menu contains not only standard dishes, but also rarely seen menu items. For example, paella here costs only 115 rubles. If I hadn't eaten paella in Spain, I would have decided to try it. However, now it is difficult to imagine what you can get in this dish for such a price.

Previously, Meatballs was adjacent to the Prokofy restaurant. But now its place is taken by Petersburger with mid-range prices.

On the other side of the Griboyedov Canal, the St. Petersburg cafe opened. A business lunch here is relatively expensive (190 rubles), but some individual dishes are not at all like in an expensive restaurant. For example, you can have lunch with soup for 90 rubles. The cozy room leaves a good impression.

At the museum on Moika 12 there is a cafe "Biron's". Without interrupting the cultural program, you can have a spartan lunch here for 150-200 rubles.

I can’t help but mention the Stolle restaurant chain, where they serve delicious pies. One of these restaurants will be reopened on Bolshaya Konyushennaya Street (house no. 1) from April 2013. Another branch of "Stolle" operates in house No. 11 on Nevsky Prospekt. Pies here cost from 30 (with cabbage) to 95 rubles (with rabbit) per serving of 125 grams, tea - from 50 rubles.

Recently, on the prestigious and expensive Bolshaya Konyushennaya Street, in house No. 15, the cafe “Plyushkin House” has been opening. Salads here cost from 45 rubles, side dishes from 40, soups from 90, meat dishes 90-110, tea 20, coffee 50. Business lunch will cost 150 rubles. Another “Plyushkin House” is located at house No. 29 on Kazanskaya Street.

For several decades now, the pyshechnaya on Bolshaya Konyushennaya Street (house no. 25) has been famous among Leningraders and St. Petersburg residents. Thanks to this popularity, it is often crowded here, but you can quickly and inexpensively satisfy your hunger. Pyshechnaya consists of two halls, each of which has its own cash register. Opening hours: 9.00 - 20.00, seven days a week. One crumpet here costs 12 rubles, tea and coffee - 18.

One of the fast food restaurant chains, Subway, sells its “subs” - hearty sandwiches. Depending on the length and filling, they cost from 150 to 250 rubles. Subway restaurants are located in building No. 20 on Nevsky Prospekt and next to the Admiralteyskaya metro station (Malaya Morskaya, 2).

Very close to Palace Square, in building No. 3 on Nevsky Prospekt, there is a cafe with a business lunch for 150 rubles and an inexpensive menu. This is not the first year that the most “central” St. Petersburg “Shaurma” has been located here. A taste of shawarma/shawarma here costs 110-187 rubles.

On the way to St. Isaac's Square you can find two economical canteens. There is a wonderful café-bistro on the corner of Malaya Morskaya and Gorokhovaya streets. It is clean, visitors sit on soft sofas, and the staff is especially friendly. Prices on the menu are surprisingly low: tea - 30 rubles, coffee - 50, side dishes from 30, meat dishes - 55-75, salads - 32-50.

Opposite (Malaya Morskaya Street, 16) for some reason the cafe-dining room “Two Peppers” is open only on weekdays.

Antonenko Lane has long been rich in two canteens: “Comfort” and “Tablespoon”. For some reason, the staff of the latter considers their prices a military secret, but I managed to find out their secrets. Despite the strict ban on photographing the menu, the prices were rewritten: salads - 30-45 rubles, meat dishes - 100-150, side dishes - 20-50, tea - 14-40, coffee - 12-45.

Menu in the "Comfort" dining room:

On Kazanskaya Street (at house No. 38) it is worth noting the Marmaris canteen. A set lunch of first and second courses with a side dish costs only 125 rubles.

On Vosstaniya Square, opposite the Moskovsky railway station, there is a fast food restaurant "Nutcracker": http://www.schelkunchik.spb.ru/. The average cost of lunch there is 300 rubles. If you arrive in St. Petersburg early in the morning and are looking for a place to have breakfast, then this place will be a convenient option. The full cost of breakfast at the Nutcracker is up to 100 rubles. Business lunches here cost 189 and 149 rubles (with and without soup, respectively). Drinks - from 45 rubles, meat dishes from 99, side dishes - 45-111, salads - 39-59, coffee - 40.

Next to the spit of Vasilievsky Island and the Kunstkamera there is a canteen of the St. Petersburg State University (Birzhevaya Line, building No. 6). This establishment is the very first student canteen in Russia, opened back in the 19th century. Unlike other student canteens, it is open seven days a week. Opening hours: 9.00 - 19.00.

Here, on Sakharov Square, is the entrance to the Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences. There is also a dining room open next to it, where anyone can go: the main entrance, then through the door to the right of the stairs (under the sign “Wardrobe”), to the right to the dining room.

IN big city There is always a place for authentic establishments where, on the one hand, it’s “strange”, but tasty and cheap. They are not on tourist routes, but knowing about them, you can consider yourself a local. Word of mouth or friends help you find them. The Village continues the “All Ours” column, where townspeople show the editors similar places. The new issue features the Finnish canteen “House of Friends” on Bolshaya Konyushennaya Street, which HSE student and research intern Ksenia Kroll goes to.

Walking along Bolshaya Konyushennaya, it is absolutely impossible to notice this dining room. To get there, you need to go through the lattice gate between the Lutheran Church and the House of Finland, turn right and go through the door next to the bicycle parking, which leads to the ground floor. Next is a long corridor, a rack for outerwear, a machine for handing over thermometers and other hazardous waste, and, finally, the treasured door to a bright room with simple Scandinavian furniture. You have to serve food in the canteen yourself at small counters, but you can pay in cash or by card.

Food and drink

My boyfriend told me about this place, and after much persuasion I finally went in. This is a godsend for both locals and tourists, and in fact the only place where you can eat well and inexpensively on Konyushennaya. There is, of course, “Pyshechnaya”, but there you just gorge yourself on donuts - it’s, of course, cheap and high in calories, but unhealthy and pointless.

I usually order meatballs, cabbage, Karelian pie and coffee with cream. The whole set costs 190 rubles. Every morning a chef is invited here: he comes at 8 am and cooks for the whole day. So in the morning there is a lot of choice, and this is the ideal place to have breakfast. From three to five o'clock in the afternoon you can always drink coffee and have a sandwich, but it is far from certain that there will be hot food left. It's better to arrive before three o'clock.

Here they try to follow some basic laws of Scandinavian cuisine and the food is similar to that in Ikea. There is nothing special or any tricks, just basic things. The choice is small, but the dishes are always different. Only the meatballs remain constant. Valio yoghurts are also always on display. Here they generally focus on Finnish products, including milk, nougat, and juices. By the way, there is practically no markup on yoghurts, everything is the same as in a regular store.

There is always one soup, in a large vat. I once saw some kind of green one with broccoli, but most often they have cabbage soup. They also prepare three types of buns and salads, just like in theater buffets. For drinks, you can take normal coffee with cream, juice, or just ask for a glass of milk.

Visitors and staff

There are very few visitors here, although the dining room has always been open to everyone. It's crowded now only because some group has arrived. There is a meeting room in the next room, and if people are meeting there, it means they will soon go to lunch. My boyfriend said that he often sees security guards from DLT here, but I most often meet consulate workers. Just now the director of the House of Finland came in. I have never seen tourists or passers-by here.

The main visitors always come at a certain time: it’s either second breakfast or lunch. The cafe, like the consulate with the House of Finland, starts working very early and ends, accordingly, too. The cafe closes at 17:00, and there are no evening gatherings here.

Several chefs work here, I don’t know if they are Finnish or not. Two Russian women serve food. One of them always wears a yellow flower in her hair, this is her signature. Everyone is very nice, no one has ever been rude to me. Heavenly politeness reigns here, and the main thing is to observe it and not disturb the silence.
